Living Consciously March 12, 2009

Dear friends,

Somebody out there is celebrating something today; a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation, a marriage, a divorce, a winning, a healing.  Every day there is something to dance about, to shout from the rooftops, metaphorically, to puff out our chest about.

In recovery groups there are daily celebrations; one week clean and sober, a month, a year.  Mothers of young children don’t realize how often they clap their hands over some little thing the baby has achieved.  I can remember when my son was two or three months old and he spent quite a bit of time trying to roll over. When he made it, I jumped up and down and celebrated him.  He smiled back.

But eventually life becomes routine, a round of getting up, going to work, coming home.  We miss the moments that are worth some applause.  Maybe you didn’t react this time when your boss seemed to ignore your good work.  Perhaps you let your impulse to play come out a little or you gave some money to someone on the street and did not condemn them.  Lttle things mean a lot.

In my memorial services I often end by inviting the audience to give this person a standing ovation for a life well lived.  Maybe it is time to give yourself one just for being you and doing a little better every day.

Peace and Blessings,

Rev Carol Carnes

Dear friends,

I just read an article that predicted the imminent collapse of evangelical Christianity.  Millions of church members are abandoning their faith. The attendance level is much lower than even a year ago.  What is on the rise is spirituality and attendance in places that support human potential and the philosophy of a personal power.

It is very exciting to be alive in a time of such an enormous cultural shift.  We are moving out of superstition and dogma into the realization that our Source is actually in the field of consciousness which we know as our mind.  As we drop the concepts of God that have kept us at war with each other for so long, there will be a rise in peace and cooperation.  It won’t happen overnight but in the great scheme of things, on the universal level, it will be very quick.

We have been moving to this realization since we first asked Who am I?  I believe this is an evolutionary driver, the reframing of our place in the universe.  It is necessary to the survival and thrival of the species and the planet, which has been so adversely affected by our superstitious behaviors.

There is a Creative Power in this internal universe and you use it with every passionate idea that arises in your mind.

Let’s all do our part and let go of the last remnants of fear-based religious thinking.    Let’s fill our minds with the vision of a world free of fear and the need to fight for a belief.  Let’s see a world that loves humanity in all its forms, respects the natural world and supports diverse creative self expression. Let’s visualize abundance for all and compassion as our starting place.  This is the moment.  We are the people, the ones we have been waiting for.

Peace and Blessings,

Rev Carol Carnes
